Aquarium

Pilikula  has identified the potential to establish an aquarium to showcase the Fishes of the region – most diverse, yet most neglected. Thus the project has been developed keeping in mind the motto of it which has been striving to conserve the natural flora, fauna, aquatic fauna and cultural heritage of the Western Ghats and Coastal Karnataka. In addition to this Pilikula Nisargadhama is also initiating a Native Endemic Fish Conservation programme that would be a part of aquarium.
The proposal to develop an aquarium zone within the Pilikula is aimed at conserving and exhibiting aquatic life native to coastal Karnataka. The proposed zone would have facilities for display of marine and fresh water fish in natural habitats as well as well as in specially designed aquarium spaces. It would be valuable educational resource to provide insight into the aquatic ecosystems of the region.
In an unfortunate scenario where the Native Endemic Species of fish are under threat of extinction, Dr Shivaram Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama has been consistently been striving to conserve and foster the Native species of the region.
